How Long Do Veneers Last On Teeth?

Your smile is something you wear every day. When you hide it, you may inadvertently appear unfriendly or even disgruntled. However, showing off your beautiful teeth can help you live your best life and create a great impression when you meet new people. Veneers can help you transform your smile into one that’s straighter, whiter and healthier looking.

What are Dental Veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin cosmetic treatment made of porcelain that is attached to the front of your most visible teeth. Usually, it’s the upper top teeth that are more prominent when you smile or laugh. When the individual veneers are placed together, the form and colour of the veneers provide the appearance of teeth that are:

  • Straighter
  • Whiter
  • Properly shaped and sized
  • Healthier looking
  • Even
  • Free of gaps and crowding

On average, depending on the width of your smile, you may need anywhere from 6-10 veneers. Single veneer, on the other hand, are occasionally used for individual teeth with aesthetic issues, such as staining or chipped enamel.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

In fact, if properly taken care of, veneers can last for 10 – 15 years if not longer. In general, modern porcelain designs can easily perform for at least a decade or more. Meanwhile, daily brushing and flossing are vital for preventing tooth decay and gum disease around your restorations, as these illnesses can threaten the integrity of your underlying teeth.

Does Getting Veneers Hurt?

In comparison to cosmetic procedures such as breast enhancement, liposuction, stomach tucks, and “mommy makeovers,” having dental veneers is a piece of cake! Best of all, there is no downtime for recovery and the effects are immediate.

The great thing is, there are no hospital stays, general anaesthetic, or invasive procedures to prepare for. Therefore, it is a straightforward dental treatment that allow you to look your best in a short amount of time.

Do You Have To Shave Teeth To Get Veneers?

Your new veneer is thin, but it gives depth to the entire tooth structure when we bind it to the front of your smile. As part of the “prep” process, our Sydney dentist will need to slightly reduce the outermost layer of your enamel to avoid your tooth from becoming bulky and unnatural.

Rest assured that we will only deliver the best smile that’s suitable for your facial aesthetics. You can fully involved in the designing process – feel free to let our doctors know your preferred shape, shade and look! Afterall, it’s your dream smile that we are creating for you!

You won’t have to worry about anything looking out of place once your permanent veneers are installed. However, some slightest amount of sensitivity is entirely normal.

How To Maintain Veneers

Dental veneers, like natural teeth, require daily home care and maintenance. Brush and floss around them on a daily basis and schedule six-monthly cleanings. Meanwhile, you could consider wearing a night guard if you’re prone to clenching and grinding your teeth so your new smile won’t chip!

If you don’t floss, plaque and acids can find their way around the edges of your veneers, causing cavities underneath them. While the veneers themselves can’t get cavities, your entire veneer may break off and may require replacement with a crown when decay forms.
